DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 2005--Zion Oil & Gas, Inc., an oil and gas exploration company based in Dallas and Tel Aviv, began drilling on a project which is the culmination of a twenty plus year quest for significant oil in Israel.

The company's Joseph Project and its potential for a major oil discovery was described in the July 5, 2004 edition of The Oil & Gas Journal.

The Project began in the 1980's based on Scripture and the vision and dedication of founder and chairman John Brown and his desire to help Israel through the discovery of oil, that if found in plentiful supply, would change Israel's political and economic climate.

Zion president and CEO, Gene Soltero, an oil and gas professional with 40 years of experience, firmly believes that the Joseph Project is a world class oil and gas prospect.

On April 3, 2005 a well dedication ceremony was conducted at the wellsite of the Ma'anit #1, approximately 60 kilometers (37.5 miles) north-northeast of Tel Aviv.

The Minister of National Infrastructures, Mr. Benjamin Ben-Aliezer was the keynote speaker.

Also in attendance were government officials, representatives of the Israel petroleum industry, Zion senior officers, shareholders and the press.

On April 10, 2005, the re-entry of the well commenced with the drilling out of the top plug that was set inside 13-1/2" casing when the 2,400 meter (7,500 foot) well was abandoned by the previous operator in 1995.

Zion intends to deepen the well to at least 4,500 meters (14,600 feet) to test the Mohilla formation of Triassic age, a zone in which oil was discovered recently by the operator of a well approximately 39 kilometers (23 miles) south of the Ma'anit #1

Drilling progress of the well may be followed at the company's website at www.zionoil.com.

On April 11, 2005, Zion received from the Ministry of National Infrastructures a two-year extension of its 96,000-acre Ma'anit-Joseph License 298.

The exploration license will now expire on April 30, 2007.

If oil in commercial quantities is discovered, the license may be converted into a 30-year production lease.
